Job Title: Communications Coordinator

 

Job Summary:

The Communications Coordinator will provide administrative support to the communications team; develop copy and visual content for review in collaboration with communications team members; be responsible for comprehensive social media administration under the supervision of the Marketing Manager; and assist with planning, oversight and execution of community outreach events, helping to further Sealaska’s communications and community outreach goals. Position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of social media strategy, and the ability to take initiative to work independently as well as collaboratively. 

 

Only Juneau, Alaska area candidates will be considered.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and support social media content creation (both copy and graphics), account administration and hands-on execution of the Sealaska social media strategy under the supervision of the Marketing Manager, with a goal of increasing engagement and brand recognition across website and social platforms.
  • Provide administrative support to the communications team to ensure efficient, effective team operations.
  • Support the communications team as a junior copywriter, assisting in the creation of cohesive, effective communications with internal and external stakeholders, to include Sealaska web stories, press releases, eNews, collateral materials, visual storytelling and business reports.
  • Assist with the promotion of Sealaska community outreach and engagement efforts, assisting with the organization and execution of virtual and in-person meetings, shareholder events, and other community outreach endeavors.  
  • Maintain strong, high-functioning, and collaborative working relationships with other departments, assisting with collaborative communications projects as needed.
  • Act as an administrative support, organizing and maintaining communications and documents, overseeing digital asset management systems, and managing eNews systems. This role also includes analytics tracking and proficient handling of other essential software systems to ensure effective operation and coordination.
  • Write and distribute accurate, well-written, professional and appealing content aimed at increasing awareness of Sealaska’s visions, values and business objectives.
  • Support the development of communications and outreach strategies for Sealaska.
  • Seek opportunities in and outside of the region to raise awareness about and increase visibility for Sealaska’s vision, mission and purpose.
  • Support the planning, development and placement of press releases and news stories.
  • Build relationships across differences; proactively and positively works through conflict; remains engaged; adept at conflict resolution and mediation techniques.
  • Develop a wide variety of written content for use in shareholder outreach and strategic engagement initiatives.
  • Develop content themes/calendars and assist with composing authentic, creative, relevant, and timely social media posts to raise engagement on the company’s website and social platforms.
  • Track and analyze metrics to measure the impact of social media and other communications efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to take initiative and explore new communication formats.
  • Creative and adaptable, with the ability to generate innovative, responsive ideas to communicate Sealaska’s vision, mission and values and meet audience needs.
  • Excellent writing skills: experience writing engaging, original, accurate articles or promotional materials for publication, for both professional and general audiences.
  • Proficiency with web-based design applications, Microsoft Office and Internet research required.
  • Experience with Adobe suite desired, but not a requirement.
  • Familiarity with content-management, editing and project-tracking tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications in a PC and Mac environment.
  • Knowledge of Alaska Native Corporations, tribal government, or other Native entities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with an orientation toward detail and the ability to work on several projects at one time with multiple deadlines and minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, confidential information
  • Willing to work some evenings and occasional weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multiple key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and drive own work.
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills to identify issues and solve problems.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, business administration, liberal arts or related degree and at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Experience with online communication tools, including email campaigns (MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.), Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
