Informatics Analyst

 

The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between the government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Bureau of Division Management & Systems Coordination (DMSC), part of the Division of Disease Control (DDC), supports all other DDC bureaus with monitoring and analyzing trends in disease data, used for the recognition, prevention, and control of infectious diseases. Within DMSC, the Surveillance Unit coordinates with disease surveillance programs within DDC, the Division of Information Technology, and external partners to maintain and enhance existing surveillance system applications and implements new surveillance system applications to support complete, timely, and equitable case detection and health information exchange while ensuring data confidentiality, data quality, and compliance toward regulatory standards.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

We seek to fill positions in the Division of Disease Control that will provide key support for DOHMH’s COVID-19 work in New York City. It is expected that the position will work up to 35 hours per week. This position will work with projects related to the Data Modernization Initiative (DMI). This person will report to DMSC.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Surveillance Unit to implement and maintain electronic case reporting (eCR)
  • Oversee process to routinely analyze, monitor, and report on eCR to ensure data quality and reporting compliance; assist data quality assurance staff with troubleshooting complex reporting issues.
  • Liaise with health care organizations (HCOs) to implement, maintain, and comply with reporting requirements; aid eCR team with updating and certifying HCO onboarding status.
  • Interface with the disease surveillance programs, the Division of Information Technology (DIT), and external partners to develop and maintain tools to improve the monitoring, management, and integration of eCR data.
  • Oversee process to integrate eCR with production surveillance systems, including:
    • Data flow and transformation
    • Data standardization
    • Routing and mapping of data
  • Interface with HCOs, DIT, and surveillance programs to communicate project status and address issues.
  • Assist with projects to build reports and assessment tools.
  • Help monitor system performance to ensure appropriate data transfer in a 24/7 data processing environment.
  • Clearly document work in letters, guides, technical manuals, and agency issue tracking tools
  • Prepare presentations, manuscripts, and reports describing initiatives, systems, methodologies, and results as well as participate and represent DOHMH in conferences, meetings, and seminars.
  • Provide status updates for activities, metrics, and milestones related to grant deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MPH or related master’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, SQL, HL7, Tableau, R, and XML.
  • Informatics experience and/or experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and time management skills; ability to be respectful and understanding of the diverse perspectives of staff and work with them to resolve differences.
  • Proficiency in navigating computer systems; ability to learn new data systems quickly and to comply with data integrity and security to safeguard all personal identifiable information.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

 

SALARY

  • Salary range is $82,506 to $94,000 and is commensurate with experience.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

9:00am – 5:00pm

Monday-Friday

Remote with potential for hybrid schedule

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

You must live in New York City Tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) in order to be considered for a position at FPHNYC.
