Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.

I. Position Objective

The corrosion engineer’s primary objective is to take responsibility and ownership for RBMI corrosion research, corrosion control manual, inspection and maintenance audit, leakage or VOC escape cause / root cause analysis, PSM assistance operation and process corrosion problem analysis and improvement, etc. corrosion-related analysis and evaluation of operations to prevent corrosion-related Leakage and potential exposures. Additionally, serve as a liaison between MI, NJ, and C/A Operations. Participate in PSM related activities.

 

II. Major Areas of Accountability  

  • RBMI corrosion research operations – Perform RBMI corrosion research work, including internal/external corrosion rate, corrosion mechanism, environmental cracks, and other damage mechanism (ODM) evaluation and setting. Additionally, work closely with MI and NJ project management teams to develop and implement new proposals.
  • Corrosion Control Manual (CCD) Development and Maintenance – Develop and maintain a corrosion control manual (CCD) and implementation of codes and standards.
  • Evaluation of damage mechanism for inspection and maintenance audit – Perform damage mechanism assessment for inspection, maintenance, and audit operations.  Leakage and VOC escape cause/root cause analysis of damage mechanism research and improvement suggestions – Perform cause/root cause analysis of damage mechanism research and improvement suggestions. Document inspections and other activities and perform evaluation of data and information by others.
  • Review, improve, update, and audit of PSM operations and corrosion issues – Participate and collaborate with the unit PSM coordinator in the review and review of PSM operations and/or corrosion issues, such as management of change (MOC), process hazard analysis (PHA), incident investigation, etc.
  • Process corrosion problem analysis and improvement suggestions – Analyze and improve suggestions for corrosion/crack problems in the plant. Oversee corrosion related to operations. Work with metallurgists to evaluate corrosion mechanisms and propose to generate potential solutions as specified.
  • Project development- Research and develop project proposals according to unit needs.
  • THM - Promote cleanliness and order through the implementation of the Total Housekeeping Maintenance program. Emphasize Nothing Touch Ground program and No Visual Pollution program. Maintain the plant in like new condition.

 

III. Qualifications 

  • BS or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering
  • Minimum one year industry or research experience preferred
