Entry Level Design Engineer (Hybrid - Columbus, IN)

Dorel Home is a dynamic and innovative home furnishings manufacturing company committed to leveraging data-driven insights to enhance decision-making processes and drive business success. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented entry level Design Engineer to join our growing team. Our Design Engineer will be responsible for taking new and existing product designs and engineering high quality functional models and prototypes for each product. They will also create SolidWorks CAD, drawings, material lists, assembly instructions, and production requirements. This position will be a hybrid one, two days in the Columbus office and three days at home.

Essential Job Functions

  • Design, develop, and engineer new products coordinating with Graphics and Engineering Team.
  • Create and organize CAD, drawings, material lists, assembly instructions, and production requirements.
  • Develop and design parts, systems, and models of products.
  • Assist in a variety of projects as directed by the Design and Engineering Manager.
  • R&D of new materials, processes and technologies.
  • Develops and documents Corporate Engineering standards.
  • Develops alternate materials for cost reduction and product improvement.
  • Development of new processes and changes to existing processes throughout the plants.
  • Search for better manufacturing solutions.
  • Color matching new materials.
  • Approve new color matches for paper, edge banding, foil, and markers.
  • Create color standards for all facilities quality departments.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience and Necessary Skills

  • Education
    • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or similar
    • Vocational schooling is accepted in place of Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Hard Skills
    • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office abilities (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).
    • Experience with SolidWorks (CAD software).
    • Experience with SolidWorks Simulation.
    • Experience with SolidWorks Visualize, Keyshot, 3ds Max, or similar rendering software.
    • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or Adobe Creative Cloud.
    • Experience with Workfront Project Management Software.
    • Experience Hand Sketching, Prototyping, 3D Printing, Sample Making, Product Styling, Engineering Standards, and Documentation are preferred.
  • Soft Skills
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
    • Effective time management; maximizes productivity.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, ability to come up with creative solutions to issues.
