Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Manage a caseload of Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients seeking employment.

Communicate with clients, supervisors and, stakeholders utilizing American Sign Language as the primary mode of communication.

Provide consumer support in obtaining the skills necessary to obtain competitive employment including but not limited to cover letter and resume building, interview skills, job search functions, employer expectations etc.

Interpret and or arrange interpretation for consumers during job interviews, orientations, staff meetings and essential communication on the job site.

Provide essential information to employers on how to provide reasonable accommodation to Deaf and hard-of-hearing employees.

Act as a bi-cultural liaison on work sites, educating employers and employees on cultural expectations and providing training and support to resolve common barriers to employment

 

Qualifications & experience:

An Associate degree in Interpreting or a related field or a High School Diploma and 3 years of work experience.

Must be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)

Must pass state skills assessment conducted by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS)

Knowledge and understanding of Deaf culture and hearing loss, including associated functional limitations/strengths in the working community, and the ability to train individuals with hearing loss on a one-to-one basis using a variety of techniques

Must be able to communicate an understanding of the needs of the business community and have an understanding of job performance assessment

Possess a valid driver’s license & acceptable driving record.

Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
